The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reminded the public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers to maintain basic hygene or else face fine.
LTFRB cited Memorandum Circular 2011-004, which penalizes drivers who disregard personal hygiene, which could result in body odor or ‘putok,’ may face a fine of P2,000 to P5,000 and possible license revocation.
The agency said they would welcome commuters who would file complaints against stinking PUV drivers.
Atty. Ariel Inton, LTFRB’s spokesperson, said they were planning to launch a program called “Disenteng Driver” to encourage PUV drivers to be presentable.
They were planning to implement a rule requiring PUV drivers to wear blue T-shirts, red for taxi drivers, green polo shirts for UV Express, and white polo shirts for bus drivers.
However, several groups raised their eyebrows at the proposed regulation, saying it would force drivers to spend extra buying new clothes.
Inton also clarified that they would not actively look for drivers with body odor.
Its is (just) a reminder. Rest assured, wala tayong witch-hunt dito.
